On Saturday, September 11, the third edition of the NDG Eco-Fest took place under the sun in Paul-Doyon Park, at the intersection of Monkland and Girouard avenues.
The partners of the "I'm active in NDG" campaign were on hand with their stands, and participated in the draw for the nine winners of the contest to find the most popular businesses on Décarie Boulevard, Sherbrooke Street West and Monkland and Somerled avenues. We would like to thank the campaign partners: Michael Applebaum, CDN-NDG Borough mayor, Sylvie Thibault of the Caisse Populaire Desjardins Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Marie-Josée Mastromonaco, CSDM school commissioner for NDG, Nicole Schiebel, NDG Éco-Quartier coordinator, Gillian Keefe, NDG Community Council coordinator, Kim Fuller, Monkland Merchant Association director, Marilène Bergeron of Équiterre and Francine Dumont, chair of the CDN/NDG CDEC Board of Directors. We would also like to congratulate the following five businesses that were most frequented by the contest participants: tied for first place were the Coopérative la Maison Verte at 5785 Sherbrooke St. W. (first place winner for the second consecutive year) and M&M Foods at 6295 Somerled Ave., followed by Esposito's Grocery Store at 5737 Sherbrooke St. W., the Maître Boucher at 5719 Monkland Ave., and Ben & Jerry's at 5582 Monkland Ave. The nine contest winners are Kristin McNeill, who won the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Active Citizen Grand Prize, Sylvie Boisvert, Patricia Zebel, Geneviève Lefevre-Dufour, Louis-Eric Trudeau, Louise Leclerc, Andres Toke, Mr. Hershkovits and Henry Ko, who won for the second year in a row! Over 250 participation coupons were filled out and returned. Moreover, the participating residents and workers made close to 650 commitments to do their everyday shopping in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, to discover new businesses and to ride a bike or walk to get around their neighbourhood. They also decided to use active or public transportation to get to work at least once a week. In conclusion, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the 182 merchants who participated in this awareness-raising campaign and to Canada Economic Development for its financial support to the CDN/NDG CDEC. Many thanks to everyone, and see you next year! |
